The perils of stigma
Stigmatization is an area that requires more research. There are many flavors of stigmatization--more than what you would thing. Unfortunately, people look more for divides them than what unites them. This leads to stigmatization. The main types of stigma are external and internal stigma. External stigma entails the attitudes, beliefs, and practices that a person faces. And the internal stigma is the expected attitude, belief, and practices from the community and society at large. I have provided a PowerPoint slides and presentations in this area. I have also written a book about this called Stigma: The Untold Story. After doing my research for the book, I conducted a pilot research. In this informal poll that I conducted on LinkedIn, I found that people had experienced physical health and mental health stigma equally. Most people said that they had experienced some other type of stigma necessitating us to think about different types of stigma that people experience.
